One Medical Teams Up With SELF Magazine & AAP On "Vaccines Save Lives" Campaign

Today, One Medical is proud to announce its participation in the creation of original photography designed to increase confidence in vaccines and accurately share evidence-based information about immunizations. This important initiative, which is spearheaded by SELF magazine and the American Academy of Pediatrics, aims to make photos that portray a realistic vaccine experience, available to download for free by any organization, media outlet, or person on Flickr, under a Creative Commons license. The images feature One Medical offices and our team of clinicians.

At One Medical we know that when fewer people get vaccinated, more people get sick. While, vaccine-preventable diseases are much less common than they used to be, we are seeing a resurgence of vaccine preventable illnesses as illustrated by the recent measles outbreaks throughout the United States. The World Health Organization listed vaccine hesitancy as one of the top 10 threats to public health in 2019, highlighting the need for new initiatives to address the fear and misinformation surrounding vaccine safety and efficacy.

Furthering the issue, stock photography commonly used to illustrate stories about vaccines can be misleading and medically inaccurate in a range of ways: depicting syringes not actually used for vaccinations, or vaccines administered incorrectly. These photos are often framed in a way that elicits fear, depicting large and glistening needles, crying babies or menacing physicians. This is not the experience at most doctors offices and most definitely not the experience at One Medical! This is why we opened up our offices and provided our own clinicians to be featured in these images that portray immunization as a healthy, positive activity.

At One Medical, we aim to make the entire patient experience an enjoyable and informative one. This means taking an extra caring approach to explaining and administering vaccines in our offices which are designed to feel warm and welcoming. One Medical’s mission is to transform healthcare for all. We know that a critical step in fulfilling that mission is keeping people healthy, which includes providing vaccinations that mitigate the risk of contracting vaccine-preventable diseases and illnesses. We hope that these new, medically accurate images, which feature the friendly faces of One Medical providers, will serve as an important step toward improving the health of people everywhere.
