One Medical Seniors Spotlight: Meet Michelle Gravalos, NP
We know that when you invest in relationships with people, you can help them live happier and healthier. At One Medical Seniors, patients get a team that respects and listens to them. Our care is built on genuine relationships and our care team works together to treat the whole person.
Michelle Gravalos is one of our Nurse Practitioners at One Medical Seniors who spends time with patients, listens to them, and respects and address their questions, concerns and goals.
We asked Michelle about what brought her to One Medical Seniors, her philosophy of care, and what she does for fun.
Q: What brought you to One Medical Seniors?
Michelle: I recently moved to Colorado, and One Medical Seniors was actually the first job I applied to when starting my job search! I read the mission and model and it was exactly why I became a primary care provider - to give patients the time they need and not rush them through their visit. I love having a team working with each patient to teach and guide them through their health choices.
Q: What is your previous experience?
Michelle: I have a Bachelor of Science in Sports Injury Management, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Masters of Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. At my previous role, I was a primary care provider for Texas Health Physicians Group in Internal Medicine where about half my patients were 65 or older.
Q: How do you care for your patients?
Michelle: Patient centered care. I work for the patient and it is my job to ensure that I am giving them the kind of care they deserve. I want a patient to feel satisfied after their visit and confident that they received good care. I prefer to not prescribe a medication if not necessary, and instead teach the patient how to make lifestyle changes to improve their health.
Q: What is the most rewarding part of your role?
Michelle: Being able to address concerns that patients have thoroughly and not rushing them through their visit is the most rewarding part of being here. I love being able to ask a patient at the end of the visit "Do you have any more questions or concerns?" and their answer is "No." That tells me I am doing my job right!
Q: Any health tips for seniors that you would like to share?
Michelle: Enjoy your life. Your health ailments do not have to define who you are or how you live the remainder of your life. We can work together to develop a plan of care that incorporates great quality of life and health management.
Q: What do you do for fun?
Michelle: I love spending time with my family, traveling, exploring and learning. I also enjoy refurbishing furniture and playing outdoors!
Q: Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.
Michelle: Ha..I was once Ms PeeWee West Hemisphere! Yup..I was a pageant baby. Also, I have (somehow) hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
Q: Anything else you'd like your patients to know about you?
Michelle: I LOVE what I do. I started as a Registered Nurse and made the transition to Nurse Practitioner three years ago. This change is the greatest decision I ever made in my life. I only wish I would have found this career earlier! I am really enjoying this next stage and being part of a practice that truly cares about their patients.
