Emel Okoye, MD
New York
Doctor of Medicine, a common medical school degree for physicians. MDs at One Medical typically specialize in family medicine, internal medicine, geriatrics or pediatrics.
As a primary care provider, I like to focus on preventing severe and/or long-lasting illness in people of all ages (from children to elderly). If illness does occur, my patients can be assured that I am well-equipped to manage a wide array of acute and chronic illnesses. Patients of mine appreciate that I am thorough with my evaluations and that I give every question an explanation or at least a clear plan on how to find an explanation. I strive to make sure that my patients are heard, informed, and are actively involved in their own care planning. My ultimate goal is to ensure that every individual regardless of background or status is provided with good quality healthcare.
How I stay healthy and happy
In my free time, I like reading/listening to books on sci-fi, self-improvement, finance, biographies, fantasy (a big fan of Neil Gaiman and various manga & comics), or any interesting recommendations. I'm an occasional theater-goer, and a typical show/movie streamer (though I'm usually 2-3 years behind on popular works). I periodically listen to music throughout my week (I currently have Afro Beats, Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, Country, among some other genres in my rotation). I enjoy listening to comedy albums and podcasts (currently a big fan of "Earn Your Leisure"). I like physical activities (I play basketball regularly) and I can get a "little" bit competitive. I like cooking and striving towards a healthy diet (regularly going back and forth with vegetarianism). I am also a big proponent of meditation and reflection.
