About Julie

I have provided individual counseling for those with depression, anxiety, grief and loss issues, and issues related to trauma. I work with individuals of all ages, using a variety of approaches, including psychodynamic therapy, trauma-informed therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the psychological roots of emotional suffering. Self-reflection and self-examination are critical components. Equally important is the use of the relationship between therapist and client, which serves as a window into problematic relationship patterns in the client's life. CBT is a heavily researched and popular form of psychotherapy that links our thoughts to our feelings and behaviors. If we're able to challenge our distorted or irrational thoughts, and replace them with more rational ones, we may be able to change our resulting feelings and behaviors. CBT has been found to be particularly helpful in the treatment of anxiety and depression. I have more than 20 years of therapy experience, and have worked in a variety of settings throughout Washington, D.C. and Virginia, including community mental health clinics, hospitals, and private practice. A native of Maine, I received my master's degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University. I got my bachelors degree from Clark University (Mass.).

How I stay healthy and happy
I enjoy being outside as much as possible, and I also love cooking.
